My primary approach is Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). This approach is different than most traditional therapies.
Traditional therapies focus on understanding the characteristics and origins of the “identified problem” and often require a lengthy time commitment in order to fully explore those problems. SFBT, characterized by a focus on your strengths, resources, and preferred future, can achieve results quickly.
Traditional therapies may focus on what you are doing that is not working. You may spend significant time with your therapist understanding your deficiencies and how they impact your life in all sorts of ways. You most likely will receive a diagnosis and develop a “treatment plan” or “interventions” so that you can overcome these deficiencies.
In SFBT, we will tap into your unique strengths, wisdom, and intelligence. We will focus on what you are doing that is working so that you can build on that and work towards solutions that are lasting in your life.
If you feel that nothing is working, that’s where I come in. When you are overwhelmed, it is easy to lose sight of your strengths, your hopes, and what is working for you. You may become fearful that things cannot become better. As a Solution Focused Therapist, I will ask you questions designed to uncover your strengths and your brilliance. We will shine a spotlight on the things (even the small things) you do that are working for you. We will highlight your competence and your ability to become what you hope to be.
Traditional therapies speak to the part of us that is hurting, unsure, fearful, stuck, hopeless, the victim. In SFBT, we speak to the part of you that is competent, intelligent, hopeful, confident, the hero.
If you are looking for the kind of therapy where you will be invited to uncover your innate strengths, wisdom and intelligence, please consider reaching out to me. If you want to take your first next small step to regain a life you enjoy, then SFBT may be just what you are looking for. Please contact me for a free phone consultation.
